AQs Shorts: Noaman Ali/Yahya Aftab
Our first AQs Shorts in 2023 features Noaman Ali & Yahya Aftab who discuss broader trends of agrarian development in northern Pakistan (Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). They point out to the declining role of agriculture as both a source of livelihoods and of overall productivity and the impact of the shift from state-led development to neoliberal reforms. They also reflect on the nature of rural political agency and peasant movements, including why the Pakistani Taliban should be considered as a kind of rural insurgency, as well as their possibilities and limits in the context of the country’s dominant political and economic forces.
Noaman Ali is Assistant Professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences, Pakistan
Yahya Aftab is Independent researcher, Pakistan
